How Do You Pay For Your Wedding In Paphos?

In Cyprus the currency is the Euro

When you’re making your own arrangements for your wedding in Paphos, it’s very straightforward.  There’s a few simple things to be aware of:

  • Cyprus uses the Euro.  Whilst the exchange rate fluctuates a bit, if you work on the basis of €1 equals £1 you won’t go far wrong
  • Cyprus is not as credit card savvy as the UK, and most businesses still expect to be paid in cash.  Cypriots are pretty risk averse, and if you’ve had your wedding and flown back to the UK and then there’s a problem, they’re going to struggle to sort it out

Getting Cash in Paphos

You’ll probably find you need a fair amount of cash when you arrive in Cyprus for your wedding in Paphos.

The easiest way to do that is to get Travellers Cheques from your UK bank or Travel Agent.  They’re probably the most secure way of carrying money, and you can cash them easily at any bank in Paphos.

Watch out for bank opening hours in Paphos, they’re open Monday to Friday in the mornings – closing at 1.30pm.

You can of course use ATMs in Cyprus to get Euros, but watch out for the commissions the UK banks charge for this.  Expect to pay between £2-£4 for every transaction.

Step by step paying for your wedding in Paphos

Your flights and hotel or villa

You’ll pay for these in the UK before you leave for your wedding in Paphos.  Book through a travel agent or book direct online, either way you can pay pretty much any way you choose.

Watch out for many airlines and holiday companies charge a small commission if you pay by credit card.

Getting Around In Paphos

The easiest way by far is to hire a car. In Cyprus they drive on the left – just like in the UK – so it’s easy.

If you hire a car at the airport, you can book it before you leave and pay with a credit card.

Hiring a car at the airport is very expensive though.  The headline price you see on the website will probably double when you get to Paphos Airport.  All sorts of extras suddenly get piled on.

Far better to get a taxi to wherever you’re staying (about €30 to Paphos), and then rent a car in Paphos itself.  There are loads of deals to be done, though you may have to pay cash.

Fancy a bike?  If you’re fit and don’t plan on going far a bike will get you around Paphos.  Expect to pay in cash.

Going on the bus?  There’s some bus services around Paphos and they even go as far as Coral Bay and Polis.  Quite cheap and of course you pay in cash.

Wedding Ceremonies

Whether you’re getting married in a church, a town hall, a restaurant or on the beach there’ll be fees to pay.  You’ll need to pay in cash a few days before your wedding.

Wedding Receptions

Almost all of the hotels and restaurants will want you to pay a deposit when you make your booking.

As you’re in the UK, you’ll be able to pay with a credit card.

When you get to Paphos your wedding reception venue will want paying on the day of your wedding, and they’ll want paying in cash.

Wedding Transport, Flowers, Cakes and Photography

Again wedding transport companies in Paphos will almost certainly want a deposit before you leave, and they’ll want the balance paying in cash when you arrive.
